Communications Intern
Position: Communications and Public Relations Intern (unpaid)
Time Period: Summer/Fall 2009
Hours Per Week: 16-32
Women’s Community Clinic:
Since 1999, the Women’s Community Clinic has used a volunteer-based model of care to create a safe, welcoming environment where Bay Area women can access health services. We honor our mission to improve the health and well-being of women and girls by providing free: health services, outreach services, and health training programs.
Communications Intern Description:
The Communications Intern will support the Communications Director in developing and implementing a communications strategy for the Women’s Community Clinic. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands on experience in nonprofit public relations, while learning valuable skills in branding, media relations, and marketing.
Responsibilities include:
Public Relations
• Assist in development of media strategy and tactics
• Draft press releases, talking points, media alerts, and other materials
• Pitch news stories to reporters, producers, and editors
• Monitor and track media coverage
• Build media lists and maintain media database
Online Marketing
• Develop innovative strategies to reach community through online campaigns
• Manage all online activities, including social networking sites
• Work with website designer to update website content
Branding and Collateral Development
• Assist in creation of new brochure and other collateral materials
• Conduct annual branding audit
• Develop, assemble, and distribute collateral materials
• Proofread/copyedit documents
Qualifications:
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written format
• Highly organized and detail-oriented
• Position involves lifting, carrying, and walking up stairs
• Preferred: Graphic design experience (Adobe Illustrator, Photo Shop, InDesign)
• Preferred: Basic HTML and website knowledge (WordPress)
• Preferred: Salesforce CRM database experience
• Preferred: Facebook and other social networking experience
