Women’s Community Clinic
Since 1999, the Women’s Community Clinic has used a volunteer-based model of care to create a safe, welcoming environment where Bay Area women can access health services. We honor our mission to improve the health and well-being of women and girls by providing free: sexual and reproductive health services, outreach services, and health training programs.
As Americorps Member/Clinic Supervisor, you will play an integral role in providing quality services to clients and will be largely responsible for day-to-day operations of the Clinic. You will have the opportunity to participate in nearly all aspects of the Clinic, including training and supervising volunteers, counseling clients, and providing outreach services. This position requires the ability to multi-task and work independently in a busy and dynamic work environment.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Site Supervisor/Clinic Manager
Workers Supervised: volunteers and (possibly) students/interns
Interpersonal Relationships: Maintains cooperative and professional working relationship with all staff, volunteers and public
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
General Duties:
1. Health education, client intake, basic medical assisting
2. HIV test counseling
3. Pregnancy options counseling
4. Front desk coordination, including answering phones and booking appointments
5. Outreach in jails or on streets to homeless and marginally housed women
6. Attendance at all trainings for the above duties
Volunteer Supervision/Coordination:
1. Management of front desk, client intake, clinic flow and office support
2. Filling in for health worker volunteers during absences
3. Opening and closing some clinic shifts during week, including evenings and occasional Saturdays
4. Organizing social and team building events
5. Ongoing daily training, supervision, and evaluation of health worker volunteers
6. Planning and executing volunteer appreciation activities, including birthday celebrations, going-away observances, and annual Volunteer Appreciation Party
Coordinate Volunteer Trainings:
1. Co-organize and co-coordinate annual volunteer trainings, ongoing in-office volunteer training
2. Coordinate in-services and on-going education for volunteers
3. Required attendance at trainings on weekends and evenings throughout program year
Additional Duties:
1. Management and design of systems for clinic operations (e.g., supply ordering & pharmacy inventory tracking)
2. Additional special projects (e.g., workshop presentations, updating referrals)
TRAININGS
Attendance at Trainings (as trainee, required, non-negotiable):
1. Client Service Coordinator Training, one full weekend in September
2. Health Educator Training, two full weekends in October
3. Pregnancy Counselor Training, one full weekend day
4. HIV Counselor Trainings, one full week AND two full days within 6 months of initial training
Participation in Trainings (as trainer; required, non-negotiable):
1. Front Desk Training, one full weekend in March
2. Health Education Training, two full weekends in April
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
* Ability and willingness to work 3 nights per week until approximately 9:30 p.m.
* Ability and willingness to work at least 1 Saturday per month
* Ability and willingness to attend several weekend-long trainings, either as a trainee or as a trainer
* Ability to multi-task
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Experience or aptitude in conflict resolution
* Ability to get along well with others
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Fluency in Spanish
* Experience in supervision, training, and/or management
* Experience or interest in women’s health

COMPENSATION
The AmeriCorps position has an annual stipend of $12,000 and an educational award of $4,725 upon program completion. Health benefits are provided. The term of service is from early September 2009 to July 31, 2010. Applications are due by May 15, 2009.
