Women’s Health Matters Discussion Offering Grassroots Ideas and Suggestions for Obama Transition

Planned Parenthood Golden Gate and Women’s Community Clinic Host Clients and Health Care Providers in Special Women’s Health Session

SAN FRANCISCO — Tonight Planned Parenthood Golden Gate and the Women’s Community Clinic are answering the Obama-Biden Transition Project’s call to host a Health Care Community Discussion by holding a Women’s Health Matters Discussion to highlight the importance of women’s health. Planned Parenthood and the Women’s Community Clinic are uniquely positioned to facilitate this timely discussion of women’s health at the grass-roots level and advocate for health care reform that establishes affordable, accessible health care for every woman.

As one of the nation’s most trusted reproductive health care providers and advocates, Planned Parenthood is engaging supporters and actively taking part in the grass-root effort to reform our nation’s health care system. With more than 80 affiliates and 880 health centers across the country, Planned Parenthood is on the front lines of America’s health care delivery system, providing basic preventive health care to millions of individuals every year.

“This is an incredible opportunity to engage our supporters and work with the incoming administration to make sure women’s reproductive health is an essential part of discussion about health care reform,” said Maya Ingram, Public Affairs Director at Planned Parenthood Golden Gate. ““Because of our frontline experience caring for women and families for the past 91 years, Planned Parenthood has a unique role in helping guide the priorities of health care reform.”

As an innovative, grassroots health care provider, the Women’s Community Clinic meets the sexual and reproductive health care needs of uninsured Bay Area women and girls. The Women’s Community Clinic’s volunteer-based model of care – the only one of its kind in the Bay Area – is highly effective in enabling uninsured women to directly access health care services.

“Every day our volunteer health care providers serve women who are failed by our current health care system. This Women’s Health Matters Discussion will be an opportunity to share their stories and first hand experiences with policymakers,” said Katie McCall, Policy Director at the Women’s Community Clinic. “Now, more than ever, we need to come together to ensure every American can access quality, affordable health care from trusted providers.”

The Obama-Biden Transition Project has announced an unprecedented effort to kick off their health care reform work- asking Americans to come together in living rooms across America to talk about their health care needs and ideas. After the discussion, participants submit their feedback and ideas online at http://change.gov/reportback.

Planned Parenthood supporters from across the country are participating in the Health Care Community Discussions and holding Women’s Health Matters Discussions in their local communities.

Here in San Francisco, Planned Parenthood Golden Gate has partnered with the Women’s Community Clinic to host this timely discussion.
