Women’s Community Clinic Receives $164,360 Grant from UnitedHealth Group/PacifiCare to Help Improve Health Care in California
Grant part of $25 million awarded to California nonprofits to improve health care delivery in underserved populations
SAN FRANCISCO (Jan. 27, 2009) – UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) and PacifiCare have awarded San Francisco-based Women’s Community Clinic a $164,360 grant to help provide free reproductive health services, health training programs and technology upgrades.
The Women’s Community Clinic honors its mission to improve the health and well-being of women and girls by providing free sexual and reproductive health services, outreach services, and health training programs. The grassroots nonprofit uses a volunteer-based model of care to create a safe, respectful environment where women receive excellent health care services from providers they trust.
“The UnitedHealth Group and PacifiCare grant will significantly improve the Women’s Community Clinic’s ability to provide accessible, quality health care to underserved Bay Area women,” said Carlina Hansen, Executive Director, Women’s Community Clinic. “With the support of the UnitedHealth Group and PacifiCare grant, the Clinic will make essential technology improvements to better serve our clients, train our health worker volunteers, and meet the expanding needs of our community.”
UnitedHealth Group today announced it has awarded more than $6.1 million in grants to 13 California nonprofits statewide dedicated to improving health care services through enhanced health care technology opportunities, supporting clinical education and driving preventive health initiatives. The grants are part of a $25 million commitment to California by UnitedHealth Group and PacifiCare and reflect UnitedHealth Group/PacifiCare’s historic and ongoing commitment to improve the health care delivery system statewide.
