Hey Readers:

Things have been pretty crazy here at the Clinic, with a huge crop of new volunteers joining us in September, as well as expanded clinic hours. I haven’t had time to do any juicy new posts lately, but I *do* want to make an amendment to my last Plan B post.

Plan B 1-Step is NOT YET covered by the green FPACT/HAP card. If you have this card, you will not be able to get brand-name Plan B covered by it.

You can, however, get Next Choice, which is the generic equivalent of the 2 pill Plan B. All the information I posted about 2-step Plan B applies to this medication - same dose, same number of pills - it just comes in a different box under a different name.

If you have any questions about Next Choice, please give us a call!

Katy is a Development Associate assisting with grantwriting and fundraising work. She is an attorney by training who fled the joyless corporate life to embrace the non-profit world. In 1997, she was hired by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (a non-profit partner of the National Park Service) to originate and manage the Alcatraz Night Tour, named the “Best Tour of the Bay Area” by San Francisco Magazine. Every day, she marveled at the fact that she was paid to learn history, tell stories, create memorable experiences for visitors, and commute by boat. She went on to become Associate Director of Visitor Programs overseeing a variety of programs and projects on Alcatraz. She hopes to combine her storytelling and persuasive skills from her past two careers to her position at the Women’s Community Clinic. In her spare time, Katy loves to go camping and hiking, zydeco dance, and play pirates and trains with her two little boys.

Lakiesha has been committed to social change and giving “voice to the voiceless” since age 14, when she and a group of friends became dissatisfied with news coverage of the Los Angeles riots and decided to produce their own video. Prior to joining the Women’s Community Clinic in August 2009 as a Communications Intern and then later as Communications Associate, Lakiesha worked five years as a staff reporter for the Sacramento Bee newspaper. She also was a staff writer for the Oakland Tribune and Hayward Daily Review, shortly after earning dual B.A. degrees in journalism and radio and television. Lakiesha is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in business administration. In her spare time, Lakiesha helps her family business and takes photos of pretty places near and far.
