Melissa Milam
Melissa Milam began volunteering at the Clinic in fall of 2007. Melissa’s first experience at the Women’s Community Clinic was as a client. After taking a class about HIV/AIDS at San Francisco State University, she realized she had avoided getting tested for too long now. She searched the internet and came across many options for HIV testing, but the Women’s Community Clinic website stood out. “The whole process of scheduling an appointment was so easy, the woman on the other end of the phone was so sweet and nonjudgmental - the whole experience from start to finish was so positive and they made the highly nerve racking process seem so normal and OK!” At the time of her visit, Melissa was volunteering in a nursing unit at California Pacific Medical Center, to gain experience for her future in the field of health care. After learning that everyone who was involved in serving her at the clinic was volunteers, she too wanted to have the opportunity to help the women of the San Francisco and Bay Area. Melissa is now a Health Educator and plans to stick around even after she is certified as RN/NP.
