Emalie Huriaux
Emalie Huriaux has been with the outreach program since it began in 2001, as an Outreach Worker, the Outreach Director, and now a Ladies’ Night volunteer. She has witnessed the amazing growth of the program, which started with only two Outreach Workers and one shift a week. Inspired by her time at the Clinic and by the women the Clinic serves, Emalie pursued a Master of Public Health degree in Community Health Education and became involved in a variety of harm reduction programs. For three years Emalie served as the Program Manager for the Drug Overdose Prevention and Education Program at the Harm Reduction Coalition, where she successfully advocated for the passage of a state bill to support overdose prevention efforts. She currently works at the San Francisco Department of Public Health where she provides oversight, training, and technical assistance to substance use programs integrating HIV counseling and testing services, coordinates the integration of hepatitis C testing in community based HIV testing sites, and provides support to syringe access and disposal programs throughout the city. When she’s not at work or at Ladies’ Night, you can find Emalie providing harm reduction training to the new crop of Clinic Health Educators, riding her bicycle, rolling like a ball in Pilates class, catching up on back issues of the New Yorker, watching silly TV, being a crazy cat lady, embroidering, or laughing with friends.
