Heidi Tuason

As part of my 2-year MPH program, I am currently doing a 3-month internship with a women’s reproductive health organization in the Philippines called Likhaan. My experience at the Clinic has enabled me to critically analyze the reproductive health issues here in the Philippines among poor women, as Likhaan’s Reproductive Health Research, Policy, & Advocacy Intern. I have waded through knee-high floods and battled cockroaches, rats, and mosquitos alike to assist with Likhaan’s once-a-month IUD insertion days and talk with poor women in the slums about their experiences of lack of contraceptive and abortion access. Without my previous experiences of being a health educator and pregnancy test counselor at the Clinic, my contributions and insights here at Likhaan would not have been as rich. Thank you for all you taught me at the Clinic, from fundraising to community organizing to pregnancy options counseling to autoclaving! =)
