Harm Reduction

Harm reduction is all about meeting people where they are, addressing their health conditions without judgement, along with the context and the behaviors themselves.

From safer sex to safer drug use, harm reduction includes practical strategies that can reduce the negative consequences of behaviors.

Examples of harm reduction topics include:

  • Domestic Violence counseling services (safety planning)

  • Emergency Contraception distribution

  • Ergonomics

  • Opiate replacement therapy (methadone and buprenorphine)

  • Overdose prevention efforts, including Narcan access

  • Safe injection rooms

  • Seat belt and helmet laws

  • Sex ed classes that include abstinence info, but are not abstinence-only
