The Clinic accepts Family Pact and Medi-Cal. We can help you enroll in these programs, which will cover the cost of your visits. If you do not qualify for these programs, we use a Sliding Scale Fee Model to determine costs of services. We are committed to providing affordable and accessible health care for Bay Area women and trans folks. As always, no one will be turned away due to inability to pay.
What is a sliding scale fee model?
A sliding scale fee model is a system where the discount to the cost of services is determined by a person’s income and household size.
How much will my visit cost?
It depends on your eligibility for certain forms of coverage:
If you are eligible for Family PACT (90% of our current clients are) and come in for a family planning or reproductive health care visit, your visit will be free. All of your services will be paid for by Family PACT, and we will enroll you when you check in.
Family PACT is a statewide program that provides no-cost family planning services to low-income individuals, including teens. To find out if you are eligible for Family PACT, please call us at (415) 379-7800 or visit www.familypact.org.
If you are enrolled in Medi-Cal and you live in San Francisco, you can now select us as your Primary Care Provider, or Medical Home, through the San Francisco Health Plan. Medi-Cal will cover the cost of your visit.
We can help you enroll in Medi-Cal or a Covered California plan. Learn more at our Insurance Enrollment page.
Find out how to choose us as your Primary Care Provider through Medi-Cal at our Medi-Cal at the Clinic page.
If you have Medi-Cal and are assigned to a primary care provider other than Women’s Community Clinic, you can still come here for certain types of sexual health services, and the cost of your visit will be covered by Medi-Cal. These include visits such as birth control, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, or pregnancy testing. You do not have to choose us as your Primary Care Provider to see us for these sexual health services. However, we cannot offer primary care to clients who have not chosen us as their Primary Care provider. For more information, please see our Medi-Cal at the Clinic page.
If you are not eligible for Family PACT or Medi-Cal, the cost of your visit will be determined by your income level and the number of people in your household. Cost for our services will be provided at a discounted rate, and we will work with you to ensure that you will receive the care you need.
What if I cannot afford the services I need?
We will never turn anyone away due to inability to pay. If you don’t qualify for Family PACT and cannot afford your sliding scale fee for our services, we have financial assistance available to help cover the cost of your visit.
If you have questions about our financial assistance programs, please contact us at (415) 379-7800.
When and how am I expected to pay for my visit?
Payment is to be made at the time services are rendered. We accept Cash, Checks, and Visa and MasterCard credit cards (but not debit). Payment Plans are available. Please talk to us about details at the time of your visit.
Do you accept insurance?
We currently accept Medi-Cal for Primary Care and Women’s Health Services, but no other types of insurance. Read more about Medi-Cal at the Clinic.
If you charge for services, why do you need donations?
The sliding scale fees do not cover all the costs of a health care visit. As we’ve increased the number of women we serve and expanded our scope of services, our operating costs have also increased. Funds that we receive from the sliding scale fee will be put toward supporting our direct services:
- Screening and treatment of sexually transmitted infections
- Well-woman exams
- Outreach to homeless and marginally-housed individuals
Because the sliding scale fees do not cover all costs of a health care visit, we rely on the generosity of our community to support our vital services and programs.
