In the past, women have been asked to come into the office every year for an ‘Annual Exam Visit.’ At this visit, women get a pap smear and breast exam. This visit also has included other things like counseling on birth control methods, checking for sexually transmitted infections, and talking about other women’s health issues.
Times have changed and now the current national recommendation is to have a pap smear every 3 years, starting at age 21. Many women are used to having pap smears every year and we want to assure you that it is safe to do them every 3 years. There are some cases when women need them more often and your clinician can talk to you about that.
So, do you need to come in every year? The answer is maybe. A GYN Wellness Visit can be every 1, 2, or 3 years depending on your health and health care needs.
At Women’s Community Clinic, we provide an array of services including:
Pap Smear and Pelvic Exam
Breast Exam and Mammogram referrals
Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) check
