Blue Shield Of California Foundation Awards Clinic $31,500

August 7, 2014

Blue Shield of California Foundation announced that it is awarding $31,500 in unrestricted funds to Women’s Community Clinic! As a longstanding ally to safety net providers across the state, the Foundation is proud to partner with the Clinic. The awarding of this grant comes at a crucial moment of change and expansion for the Clinic. Last year the Clinic began offering Primary Care as part of their suite of women’s health care services, and as of August 1st, 2014, Medi-Cal enrollees can now choose Women’s Community Clinic as their Primary Care Provider.

“Over the past eleven years, the Foundation has provided more than $60 million in core support grants to the community health centers working on the frontlines of California’s vibrant healthcare safety net,” said Peter Long, PhD, President and CEO of Blue Shield of California Foundation. “Our continued investment in Women’s Community Clinic reinforces our confidence in their ability to respond to new challenges while continuing to provide high-quality care to low-income residents in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Even after passage of the ACA, many low-income patients remain uninsured or under insured. Core operating support is vital for ensuring that organizations like Women’s Community Clinic are able to provide comprehensive, preventive, client-centered, and educational care to all women, regardless of their ability to pay.

“The Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to innovative programming that strengthens the healthcare safety net and increases access for all Californians,” said Carlina Hansen, Executive Director of Women’s Community Clinic. “We are honored to be recognized for our approach to transforming women’s health care, and thankful to have this support from the Foundation, which offers us flexibility as we respond to the changing needs of our clients and community.”
